Do you qualify for additional savings?
Some Mainers qualify for additional discounts through community solar. Be sure to tell your representative if any of the following apply to you and your household:
- Someone in your household receives government assistance like SNAP or Medicaid
- You reside in a census-designated LMI area
- Your household income falls below a certain threshold
Special situations
When to ask questions
Be sure to discuss any of these situations with your representative if they apply to you.
In some states, it is allowed for utility customers to have solar panels and be part of a community solar project. Because solar generation varies throughout the year, it’s not always a great fit for someone to join a solar farm when they have their own solar array. Typically, we don’t recommend joining a solar farm if you have solar panels on your roof.
Even if community solar legislation allows you to join a second community solar project, we do not recommend it. Your community solar subscription is tailored to your expected electricity needs. If you receive community solar credits from two separate companies, you might end up overpaying and not benefiting from the program as intended.
